Thrill and Chills

What good fun we had on Thursday! While we were a small group, I enjoyed watching Midsummer Night's Dream with you who came and helping tell about some of the language of Shakespeare. Some of us also were stuffed on popcorn, wafer cookies, cheese crackers, and had a sugar overload from the pixie sticks. :)

Coming up this next week let us fight the inner monsters with our
Thrills and Chills week:

June 26            Zombies vs. Humans! @ 3PM

Come play a version of the college craze! While it may at first seem like a game of tag, it is so much more! Will you survive or become a flesh eating corpse? Refreshments available.

June 28            Vampires vs. Werewolves Night @ 3PM

Help decide which teen Vampire (and/or Werewolf) movie to watch as we kick back and enjoy. Play some scary trivia and have fun pinning the tail on the werewolf and fangs on the vampire.(I have actually got us a Breaking Dawn Part 1 movie poster for this one. The winner of the contest gets to take it home!) Costumes encouraged but not required. Come enjoy some treats as we have a bloody good time!

Sweet Dreams are Made of These

What a fun craft! I loved, loved, loved making these fun dream journals with all of you that got to come to yesterday's program! Not only was it able to teach us a fun, new way of re-purposing our old blue jeans, it also gave us a small course on book binding and some basic sewing. In case you missed it, we may revisit this one in the fall when we have another craft day. Yippie! I also want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Goodwill Industries of the Big Bend for generously donating the blue jeans for this craft. So when you get to stop by out local Thomasville Goodwill, be sure to tell them "Thanks!".

Don't forget that tomorrow we will be celebrating the summer solstice and welcoming the season (which officially starts today) by watching the modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.  This is one of my absolute favorite plays (remember I was a Theatre major in college before switching to Philosophy) and I just adore the words of Shakespeare! I may even sport some fairy wings for the occasion. So please come, relax, laugh, and enjoy the "food of the fairies" as we have a Faerie party in celebration!

These were my creations. I love my flower made out of buttons. :)

Super pretty with the teal blue button and hot pink twine.

Love that extra red button to add spark!

See! You can make these too!

"Lord, what fools these mortals be!"

Last week was amazingly fun and busy here! Tuesday we got to play with our food as we created some late night snacks. The caramel popcorn was gooey and yummy, and I really enjoyed the cheesy ranch Chex Mix we made!

On Thursday, the Teen Room was hopping with many of you! I was so impressed to see such a great turnout for the Coffee Sack craft! Thanks to all who came and your creativity and patience in the making of your new tote bags! There were over 20 of you and I left feeling exhausted and with a few blisters from the hot glue on my fingers, but it was all in fun! I hate I didn't get to take any pictures of your wonderful creations, but if you made one you would like to share, please bring it by so I may take a picture of it (and you if you like) to share on the blog-o-sphere here.

Cooking Up Some Fun!

We have just completed our first week of Summer Reading programs and what a week it was! In case you missed it, we had the Tallahassee Astronomical Society come in on Tuesday and talk with us about stargazing. I personally enjoyed sitting by my tent and learning even more incredible facts about the origins of the constellations.

We had a nice, cozy group for the Stargazers craft. Some of us learned more about our astrology sign and our horoscope. I am sure I will still be finding glue dots for awhile, but it was all in good fun! Here are some pics from the craft:

Here is my finished product. Yay!
A mess of creativity.
Up Next Week:

It's the post of the "Don't Forgets"!

  • Starting tomorrow, the library will now be available on the weekends. So if you haven't been able to sign up for Summer Reading during the week, come visit us on the weekend!
  • Summer Reading programs for teens kick off on Tuesday! Here is what's up for next week's Camping Under the Stars:

    June 5              There’s S’more to Constellations @ 3PM (Flipper Room)

Tallahassee Astronomy Society will meet Young Adults in Flipper Room B for an in depth exploration into our summer sky and the origins of the constellations with their Greek roots. Enjoy that indoor atmosphere of “Camping under the Stars” with our tents, sleeping bags, and of course, S’mores!

    June 7              Stargazers @ 3PM (Teen Room)

Integrate yourself with the cosmos! Learn how to create your own star paper lantern and learn about astrology. What is your sign and does it “fit” you? What is the history of astrology and its meaning?
  •    Keep on reading! Due to the volume of participation in this year's Summer Reading, incentives will only be awarded after the first 500 pages reading goal is met. You will still receive a raffle ticket for every 500 pages read. Remember that the pages also equal points, so the more you read the greater chances for prizes. With 2 ways to win this year, those raffle tickets and points add up! But more of all, it is for the fun of reading!
